Digipacks are a type of CD packaging
made out of card stock or other heavy paper/cardboard material. Digipacks can
flip open like a book, or it can have three parts, so that one portion of the
packaging opens to the right and one to the left, with the CD in the centre portion.
Usually, the portion of the digipack that hold the CD is made of plastic like a
traditional jewel case CD - the plastic part is simply attached to the paper
background.
I believe digipacks are important to the
music industry because its a way of the record label to actually promote an
artist, especially if the artist is new and upcoming. For example on the
artists debut album the audience will only be first introduced to us through
either their didgipack which has a nice clear picture of them which shows us
how they look, and also by the digipack the audience have a little insight into
the artists genre and also they dress.
The way this could be benefit the music
industry is because by the artist being introduced in many other way the
digipack is one of the most important because it can create revenue for the
record label because people will want to buy an album due to the music but also
due to how appealing the digipack actually looks.
This is an example of a fresh artist who won a popular show called
XFactor, as you can see this is a cover of his single and as the audience we
are introduced to him in a clear side shot of his face, however because he is
slightly known in the uk because of xfactor i believe that covered most of his
publicity so the cd cover is just an add on to his popularity, and by this i
mean because the picture is being taken from the side you can still see his
face clearly and his name is in ver bold writing so as the audience i think
this will really attract fans who see this in stores.
