Thought Behind Digipak Name
Instead of thinking of a random name to put as the title of Dee Bank's first digipak, we thought it would be nice, to think of a name that had a meaning to it - that reflects the artists life, upbringing or an inspirational title. A few names we had initially thought of were:
We had then agreed on the name I had thought of which is Deeperspective as it has three meanings in one. The first meaning is 'Dee' as our artist is Dee Banks. The second is the word 'Deeper' which can reflect the songs on Dee Banks' album; his lyrics have deep meanings etc. And finally is the word 'Perspective' which again gives the audience an insight to what the songs on the album are like; lyrics may reflect Dee Bank's life through his perspective.
Digipak & Magazine Advert Mock-Up
This is my mock-up of the digipak:
This is my mock-up of my advert. I have chosen to use an a5 layout.
House Style
We've chosen fonts that reflect an urban lifestyle. The font 'Urban Jungle' itself had tower blocks in the lettering which reflects where our artist is from and the London city atmosphere.
For the artists name, we have chosen fonts that are in the style of graffiti as it again is very urban, and relates to our UK hip hop/grime genre.
The top font will be used for our tracklist whereas the second will be used on the spine of the Digipak. |

Do's and Don'ts of Design Work
This is what I should do/include when I'm constructing my digipak covers and magazine adverts:
This is what I shouldn't do/include when I'm constructing my digipak covers and magazine adverts:
Analysis of Advertisements
This poster relates to the target audience as its colour of purples, red and white are bright and eye catching which will definately attract the target audience. Its release date is written in red so its noticeable and stands out to the rest of the poster. It showcases different ways you can purchase the album, so Tinie Tempah's target audience (ages 15-25yrs) can purchase it digitally as well as a hard copy. Featuring tracks on the poster can catch the eye of Tinie Tempah's wider target audience as they may recognise his singles and want to purchase the album.
This poster relates to the target audience as its eye popping blues, blacks and whites will engage the attention of them, as well as the long shot view of the artist Wretch 32. The target audience will also recognise the tower blocks and the graffiti like dripping effects of the motif which will attract them to the advert as its something they will be familiar with. Featuring the digipak itself allows the target audience to familiarise themselves with what it looks like, so they know what they'd be purchasing. Showcasing where they can purchase the digipak allows the target audience to easily find where to buy it instead of searching for it. As shown, purchasing of the digipak could also be done digitally.
Font ideas for our digipack
These are some of the ideas we thought of adding in our digipack because we think goes good with the genre of our music video etc..

Analysis of Digipaks
Wretch 32: Wretchrospective
As Wretch 32 has no Digipak,
I've manage to find his cover for his mixtape Wretchrospective.
The front panel of this album cover follows most of the conventions of a
general digipak,
however, for as Wretch 32 is a new artist I feel they should have used a close
up shot of the artist.
This mixtape cover relates to the Grime/UK Rap genre as it features the significant and recognisable features of the UK such as tower blocks and birds. It relates to the target audience as they would also be familiar to the graffiti style font Wretch's name is in as well as the motifs. The black white and shades of blue colours they have included, the core target audience of males should find this appealing.
Tinie Tempah: Disc-overy
This album cover relates to the genre of Grime/British Hip Hop as its bold in terms of colour and the artist Tinie Tempah is wearing clothing that represents this genre; bomber jacket. This relates to the core target audience of teenage to young adult males as it features the artist holding a city, which most young adult males and teenagers aspire to have some sort of power of. It could also relate to the wider audience of young females and teenage females as feminine colours such as purples and pinks are included.
Ancillary Products - Digipaks
The function of a digipak is to appeal to the artists target audience by including more information about them. It's purpose is to 'add value' and encourages us to pay for something special and extra. A digipak consists of between 2-8 panels, showcasing a range of photographs of the artist, and text relating to the album.
The conventions of a digipak include:
- A clear font
- Use clear photographs that are in focus
- Use appropriate image and font sizes
- Use a layout that follows the rule of thirds conventions
- Use a consistent house style
- Use appropriate industry logos and conventions

Using Photoshop
This is my unfinished album cover for Dan London. This is just a practice of using Photoshop Elements, which I found quite interesting. As I have used Photoshop before during photography lessons, I had quite a bit of experience of using the software.

Progress Review Blog
I think that my blog details the research, planning and construction stages of our music video rather thoroughly as each note I have taken I have posted a blog about it, as well as me blogging about every change we have had during the process of our music video.
In relation to the individual targets I had set myself, I'm rather pleased with my blogging efforts as I feel that I am up to date with my blogging tasks and I have written each post in detail, trying my best to use different formats.
So far, I have 38 individual blog posts.
- Target Audiences
- Music Video Influences
- Music Video Influences: Cutaway Shots
- Costume Ideas #1 and #2
- Analysis of a Music Video: Rihanna - We Found Love ft Calvin Harris
I am most proud of these blog posts as I feel that I have done a lot of research into the themes of the blog posts as well as including a range of medias in each of them. I also feel that they are very well written in detail, and I have related them to my music video and target audience. I have also shown that I have generated ideas from these posts, which reflects in our own music video.
The blog post that wish I had put more effort into was my Skills Audit post. I feel that this post is extremely brief and I could have included some more detail in it as well as incorporating images too.
